TOKYO – INPEX says oil production has started from the Umm Lulu field offshore the UAE.

The location is 30 km (18.6 mi) northwest of Abu Dhabi City. INPEX subsidiary Japan Oil Development Co. has jointly developed the field with Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (ADNOC), BP, and Total.

Under the first phase, production involves use of existing facilities serving the adjacent Umm Al-Dalkh oil field.

Full-field development of Umm Lulu is in progress. Following completion, the field is expected to deliver 105,000 b/d at peak.

First phase oil is transported via an existing subsea pipeline to Zirku Island, and onward to customers in Japan and other Asian countries as Upper Zakum crude.
