DELFT, the Netherlands – Dutch research organization TNO is taking on more oil and gas projects in the Middle East from its branch in Qatar.
It is working with Qatar University’s Gas Processing Center to design, build, and commission a pilot plant to study the performance of chemical solvents for the removal of carbon-dioxide (CO2) from different gas sources. It has also been working with Saudi Aramco, Kuwait Oil Co., in co-development with Maersk Oil on new technologies for increased oil recovery (IOR).
Under a recent memorandum of understanding with Abu Dhabi’s Petroleum Institute, TNO is targeting new technical solutions to increaseproduction and recovery from oil and gas fields.
Other areas of current focus include production optimization, with TNO assisting operating companies and governments to develop production strategies that maximize asset performance and recovery, and applying technologies for emission reduction, CO2 capture and storage, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and CO2 use.
TNO’s exploration and reservoir geomechanics efforts in the region are focused on developing and testing new technologies for unlocking more hydrocarbon reserves while minimizing risk and environmental footprint.
Finally, in the field of asset integrity the institute is working to keep process installations andpipelines within safe and optimal operating conditions while subject to vibrations, pulsations, corrosion, and erosion.
