STOCKHOLM, Sweden –The semisub Island Innovator has spud the Kopervik exploration well offshore Norway for operator Lundin Norway.

Well 25/10-12S, in license PL625, is 175 km (109 mi) west of Haugesund on the Norwegian west coast, and roughly 20 km (12.4 mi) northwest of the giant Johan Sverdrup field in which Lundin is a partner.

The company is looking to test the reservoir properties and hydrocarbon potential of the Upper and Middle Jurassic sandstones in the Kopervik sub-basin. It believes the Kopervik prospect could hold 163 MMboe.

Drilling should last around 60 days, with a planned TD of 2,570 m (8,432 ft) below mean sea level.

Offshore Sabah,Malaysia, the jackup West Prospero has spud the Kitabu-1 exploration well for Lundin and its partners in block SB307/308.

The Kitabu prospect is a stratigraphic trap 4 km (2.5 mi) north of the Shell-operated and producing South Furious 30 oil field with target reservoirs in onlapping turbidite sandstones of the same Miocene sequence. Kitubu could contain 71 MMboe.

The vertical well, in 50 m (164 ft) of water, will be drilled to a depth of 2,270 m (7,447 ft). Operations should last for around 35 days.
