TOKYO – JAPEX UK E&P, with financial assistance from Japan Oil, Gas, and Metals National Corp., has exercised a farm-out option agreed on earlier this year with Apache North Sea.

It gives JAPEX participating interests in four licenses in theUK North Sea in return for payment of certain well and other costs.

JAPEX gains 10% of license P1998, containing the Val D’Isere prospect and 20% of P2001, which includes the Les Arcs prospect. Apache remains designated operator in both cases.

The licenses, around 300 km (186 mi) east of Aberdeen, cover a total area of 175 sq km (67.6 sq mi) in a water depth of around 100 m (328 ft). A 3D seismic survey is undergoing reprocessing and wells are planned on both prospects.

The farm-out remains subject to UK government and co-venturer approvals.
