SYDNEY, Australia – Roc Oil says drilling is under way on the first of two exploration wells in Beibu Gulf block 22/12 offshore China.

Well WZ12-10-1, drilled by the jackupHYSY 935, is targeting the T42 and Weizhou West formations, adjacent to the WZ12-8 East field in the WZ12-8 Development Area.

The well location is 4.7 km (2.9 mi) east-northeast of ROC’s Beibu 12-8W facilities in a water depth of 35 m (115 ft). Planned depth is 1,539 m (5,049 ft) TVD.

CEO Alan Linn said: “This exploration program in Beibu is following on from the successful exploration and development programs of WZ6-12 and12-8W fields in 2012/13. It is targeting incremental volumes to the 12-8W project and the future 12-8E project and will also provide an expansion of the existing development acreage…allowing further future exploration and development activities.”

Roc Oil’s board has accepted a takeover bid from Transcendent Resources, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Fosun International. The deal remains subject to shareholder approvals.
