LONDONNoble Energy has re-evaluated the potential of numerous offshore licenses in the south and east Falkland basin.

According to partner Falkland Oil & Gas Ltd. (FOGL), the study incorporates all existing well results,2D seismic, and new 3D datasets focused over the most prospective parts of the basin.

The main conclusion is that although the Loligo and Scotia exploration wells both found gas, the main hydrocarbon phase in the Diomedea area will likely be oil. Detailedgeophysical analysis on the new 3D data is targeting oil rather than gas accumulations.

Within the Diomedea fan complex, the partners have identified various prospects and leads, and are focusing on the following:

  • Humpback: 510 MMbbl
  • Finback: 232 MMbbl
  • Caperea: 225 MMbbl
  • Stingray 266 MMbbl
  • Minke 240 MMbbl.

In the Cretaceous fault block area to the south, two prospects have been identified:

  • Scharnhorst North: 188 MMbbl
  • Nurnburg: Evaluation ongoing.

In the Hersilia fan complex three prospects, Hersilia, West Hersilia and Challenger, have been identified using only the 3D fasttrack data. More work will also follow on Loligo.

The first well will likely be drilled on Humpback.
