Amarinth pumps to lift seawater to drilling rigs offshore UAE

Amarinth has won a contract to supply 16 API 610 super-duplex pumps for ADMA-OPCO’s Satah al-Razboot (SARB) offshore oil field development, 200 km (124 mi) northwest of Abu Dhabi.

WOODBRIDGE, UK – Amarinth has won a contract to supply 16 API 610 super-duplex pumps for ADMA-OPCO’s Satah al-Razboot (SARB) offshore oil field development, 200 km (124 mi) northwest of Abu Dhabi.

These will be supplied in A-series and C-series configurations for duties including fire water supply and diesel transfer.

Drilling at SARB is performed from two artificial islands. The SARB 3 project will add an additional 100,000 b/d to the UAE’s oil production capacity following commissioning in 2016.

The new pumps will lift seawater to the drilling facilities. These will be self-priming systems. According to Amarinth, an innovative vacuum technology will be deployed to prime the pumps before operation.

When the centrifugal pump is turned on the vacuum priming unit will be first activated to lift the seawater to the centrifugal pump. The vacuum unit switches off via an integrated pressure switch as soon as the centrifugal pump has built up discharge pressure.

During operation, if air accumulates and the discharge pressure drops below the switch point of the pressure switch (i.e. when sea conditions cause the water level to temporarily fall below the inlet level), the vacuum priming unit starts up again to lift seawater and re-prime the pump.

Use of this technology allows the equipment to operate remotely with no services other than power, Amarinth adds.
