WEST PERTH, AustraliaADX Energy has secured an exploration permit in the Sicily Channel offshore southwest Italy, which is on trend with the Kerkouane permit in neighboring Tunisian waters.

The 363 C.R‐.AX (Nilde) concession contains the abandoned Nilde oil field, which was operated by Eni. This part of the Sicily Channel contains a chain of large undrilled structures, ADX says.

The company has successfully imaged these structures via a 700-sq km (270-sq mi) Geostreamer 3D seismic survey on the Tunisian side of the hydrocarbon trend.

It adds that the Nilde license block would also allow relatively smaller discoveries to be commercially developed, due to a combination of water depths mainly below 100 m (328 ft) and Italy’s fiscal regime.

On the Tunisian side of the foothill belt trend in the Kerkouane license, the company holds a 100% operated interest following the withdrawal ofGulfsands. It has agreed to a two-year license with the Tunisian authorities, and is now awaiting final government ratification.

It will use the extension to acquire additional 3D seismic over an area that previously had only limited quality 2D seismic vintage data.
