GORINCHEM, the Netherlands –Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam has delivered the first of three custom-built seismic research support vessels to Rederij Groen. The 7-Oceans vessel was delivered to offshore services company Rederij Groen in Scheveningen, the Netherlands.

The vessels was designed in cooperation with both Rederij Groen and its customer. The seismic research support vessel has been constructed by Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam, part of theDamen Shipyards Group, and is the first of a series of three identical vessels.

ChartererDolphin Geophysical opted for a 35-m (115-ft) design from Vestvaerftet in Denmark. This design is even closer to a fishing vessel, compared to the two 40-m (131-ft) newbuilds that Maaskant delivered to Rederij Groen last year.

For maneuverability, two Veth azimuth stern drives were chosen, each driven by an active front end, and frequency controlled electric motors of 500 kW. Power is generated by three Caterpillar C18 generator sets of 525 kVA. Also a 90-kW electric bow thruster is fitted.

Accommodation is arranged for a crew of six, with extra capacity for eight crew members.

The electronic package complies with an A4 service area, which enables the vessel, in combination with the ICE-class notation, to operate in Arctic areas.
