GDI wins new contract

Gulf Drilling International Ltd (GDI) has received a new contract by Qatar Petroleum for a new high-specification jackup rig starting in 2Q 2016. The new rig, Halul, will become the fourth jackup in GDI’s fleet to be contracted to QP.

DOHA, QatarGulf Drilling International Ltd (GDI) has received a new contract by Qatar Petroleum for a new high-specification jackup rig starting in 2Q 2016. The new rig, Halul, will become the fourth jackup in GDI’s fleet to be contracted to QP. The agreement is for an initial term of five years.

The other three jackups are under contract to QP areAl Doha, Al Zubarah, and Dukhan.

GDI has identified a shipyard with a rig suitable to QP which will be delivered within the specified time frame, and is in the process of finalizing its order.

The key features of the new rig will be a 1.5 million-pound derrick, 150 man accommodations, 75-ft (23-m) cantilever outreach, 7,500 hp mud pumps, and other customizations required by QP.
