MOSCOW – The research vessel Geolog Dmitry Nalivkin sailed from Kirkenes in northern Norway last week to the Kara Sea off northern Russia.

Over the next three months the vessel will conduct a 2D seismic survey over Rosneft’s three Vostochno-Prinovozemelsky licenses, where water depths range from 40-350 m (120-1,000 ft). The data should help identification and delineation of drillable oil and gas prospects.

Rosneft operates the licenses in partnership with ExxonMobil. The duo expectsdrilling of their first well in the Kara Sea, on the Universitetskaya structure, to start in August. The drilling rig is en route to the drilling location.
