AMSTERDAM, the NetherlandsElement Materials Technology has opened a flagship Oil and Gas Materials Technology Center in Houston. The laboratory, known as Element Houston, represents a total investment in excess of $5 million.

As a first-of-its-kind center, the facility will offers clients fracture mechanics and engineering critical assessment, as well as NDT and corrosion testing, across a range of metal alloys, thermoplastics, composites, and elastomers.

With a main facility of 40,000 sq ft (3,716 sq m) housing all core testing capabilities, plus an expanded 15,000-sq-ft (1,394-sq-m) facility for onsite NDT, the Materials Technology Center delivers a 50% increase in testing capacity over Element’s previous laboratory based in the city.

New key equipment includes wire EDM, water jet, four new servo-hydraulic machines for fracture mechanics, and a high-pressure/ high-temperature laboratory for sweet and sour exposures to metal and polymeric materials.
