SAN DONATO MILANESE, ItalyEni has achieved the production goal of 25,000 boe/d at the Nikaitchuq field. The field, offshore the North Slope of Alaska in a water depth of 3 m (10 ft), holds reserves estimated at 200 MMboe. Nikaitchuq production, which began in January 2011, is the first operated by Eni in the Arctic. The company is operator with a 100% interest.

Development of Nikaitchuq includes the drilling of wells and the construction of facilities both on land and on an artificial island built by Eni in the Beaufort Sea. The location’s climate and environmental constraints required Eni to drill multi-lateral horizontal wells. Nikaitchuq horizontal wells are the most complex wells drilled by the industry to date in Alaska, says Eni, with a lateral displacement that extends up to 22,000 ft (6,706 m). The field treatment plant can handle 40,000 boe/d and up to 120,000 b/d of water.

Eni is working toward achieving the new production target of 30,000 boe/d in the next 12 months.
