ARENDAL, Norway – Sevan Marine has agreed to sell 49% of its topsides/processing technology specialist Kanfa to Technip.

The two parties intend to collaborate to expand the business of the company and its subsidiaries Kanfa Ingenium Process and Kanfa Motor in theNorth Sea and elsewhere. Kanfa will support Technip in offshore front-end engineering and design and engineering, procurement, and construction projects offshore Norway.

Kanfa Motor is also part of a consortium including IFE (Institute for Energy technology), Statoil, and Det Norske that has won funding for a joint industry project through the Petromaks 2 program.

The goal is to increase understanding of gas processing and the challenges related to liquid carry-over, which has been the cause of several compressor breakdowns.

The four-year JIP will develop new software tools and refine current tools to improve design of gas processes through more precise flow models.

One of the technologies involved will be Kanfa Motor’s “liquid carry over sampler,” which facilitates quantification (by volume) and qualification of the liquids carried over by the gas. The system provides information on liquid droplet sizes and concentrations: to date it has been used for four offshore tests.
