OSLO, Norway – Results from a drillstem test on the Pil discovery in the Norwegian Sea are better than expected, according to partner Rocksource.
The semisubmersibleTransocean Arcticdrilled the well on the Halten Terrace in production license 586, 33 km (20.5 mi) southwest of the Njord field complex. It flowed 6,700 b/d of oil on test, with rates constrained by facilities on the rig.
Operator VNG Norge estimates recoverable reserves in the 50-170 MMboe range, with substantial upside potential within the Pil closure that was not proven by this first well.
Pressure measurements indicated a continuous reservoir system capable of sustaining higher flow rates than those observed during the DST. Sampling suggests 37°API oil with a gas/oil ratio of 152 cu m/cu m, although this has to be confirmed by laboratory tests.
Transocean Arctic will drill a downdip side track to prove the lateral extent of the Pil reservoir and to test upside within the closure. It will then drill a second side track to assess the potential of the nearby Bue target.
