SINGAPOREDNV GL has opened a new laboratory in Singapore, tripling the space it had previously in order to deliver integrated solutions for the marine and offshore industries. Driven by recent developments in deepwater technology, the facility aims to provide integrated solutions for oil fields in harsher environments through testing, qualification, and assessment.

Structured into four service areas, each possessing specific disciplinary capabilities and complementary competencies, the new laboratory will be able to undertake a broad range of services – from microstructure to mega structure, and from laboratory testing to field services.

Some of the advanced performance test machines and facilities available in the new laboratory include a 2500KN dynamic testing machine that is capable of testing larger components and thicker materials used in offshore projects; a strong floor, with a 50% increase in length, that is capable of accommodating full-length 12-m (39-ft) linepipe testing; and a 1.3-m (4-ft) Gantry cutting machine that can handle the large-diameter linepipe that is increasingly used in transporting gas.
