Damen opens Song Cam shipyard in Vietnam

Damen Shipyard Group has held the ribbon-cutting ceremony to open its Damen Song Cam shipyard.

GORINCHEM, the Netherlands –Damen Shipyard Group has held the ribbon-cutting ceremony to open its Damen Song Cam shipyard. The yard is Damen’s first formal joint-venture yard in Vietnam.

With direct access to open sea, the new yard is based on a 43-hectare site, of which 500 m (1,640 ft) is directly alongside the River Cam. The yard has a 120 m long x 85 m (394 ft x 279 ft) wide outfitting hall, plus extensive paint and carpentry workshops.

The shipbuilding hall is a dedicated outfitting hall, with three overhead cranes of 25 metric tonnes (27.5 tons) each over every bay.

By the end of 2014, Damen said it will have formed a joint venture with the newly merged company Song Cam/Ben Kien, as well as with Ha Long.
