HONG KONG – CNOOC Ltd. (NYSE: CEO, SEHK: 00883, TSX: CNU) has made a mid-sized natural gas discovery with the Bozhong 22-1 well in Bohai Bay.
The Bozhong 22-1 structure is located in an average water depth of about 25 m (82 ft). The discovery well Bozhong 22-1-2, being drilled and completed at a depth of 4,611 m (15,128 ft), encountered gas reservoir with a total thickness of about 92 m (302 ft).
The gas production of the well was tested around 14.2 MMcf/d (4 MMcm/d). The discovery of Bozhong 22-1 demonstrates the good prospects of buried hills for future gas exploration of the south slope inBozhong Sag.
