MUTTENZ, SwitzerlandClariant and Petronas Technology Ventures Sdn Bhd (PTVSB), a technology commercialization arm of Petronas, have entered a licensing term sheet agreement in which Petronas’ HycaPure Hg – a solid-supported ionic liquid mercury removal technology that extracts elemental, organic and inorganic mercury from natural gas – will be added to the portfolio of Clariant’s ActiSorb GP 400 series adsorbents.

The companies say this adsorbent can handle mercury concentration surges in the gas stream during pipeline pigging activities.

Dr. Colin Wong Hee Huing, vice president of Petronas’ technology and engineering division, said, “Hycapure Hg has already been in use at Petronas’ gas processing plants for more than two years, and it demonstrates high adsorbent capacity and stable performance. This licensing collaboration will allow the technology to go beyond our facilities and gain valuable access to the international market.”

Stefan Heuser, Clariant senior vice president and head of business unit catalysts, said, “With the extended life cycle of Hycapure Hg, the new addition to our ActiSorb GP 400, we will continue helping our customers to achieve better sustainability and greater efficiency, at the same time.”
