DUBAI, UAE – Drydocks World has held its first joint workshop following its recent letter of intent (LOI) with Offshore Innovation Management to build a series of AJ 62-X135 series of multi-purpose (accommodation and construction) jackups. These will be among the largest built to date, according to Drydocks World.
The meeting brought together delegates from Offshore Innovation Management, GustoMSC (designer and supplier of the jacking and fixation system), Markhus (accommodation specialist), and DNV.
Eng. Ali AlSuwaidi, vice president – commercial, business development and project management at Drydocks World, said: “We have taken heed of the fact that there has been a surge in recent demand for higher specification jackups for operation in deepwater and there has been additional growth in areas such as those adjoining the United Kingdom and Norway.”
Discussions included North Sea standards, the construction methodology, and the detailed schedule for production engineering and long-lead items in the yard, design and outfitting of the living quarters for 490 personnel, and the 3,000-metric ton (3,307-ton) crane.
The forum also discussed the requirement to provide a dust-free environment for outfitting works on the living quarters in order to comply with Norway’s Norsok standards.
Drydocks World’s engineering department is developing the rig’s final technical specification with the owners and designers, and aims to conclude the construction contract by March, followed by contract awards to major subcontractors.
Construction will start this year and the first rig is expected to be delivered in 2016.
