SMT Salvage to retrieve jackup from Angola seafloor

ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands –Boskalis subsidiary SMIT Salvage has won a contract to remove a damaged drilling jackup from the seabed offshore Angola.

Saipem’sPerro Negro 6 suffered a punch-through last July while being installed near a pigging platform. It subsequently rolled over and sank to a depth of 30 m (98.4 ft).

During September, a Boskalis survey team working with SMIT performed site surveys and other preparatory activities for the program.

SMIT will remove the rig’s hull, legs and other components, using a diving support vessel, a work barge, anchor handling tugs, and other equipment. Salvage work should start in 2Q 2014.
