CALGARY, Canada -- Detailed engineering and construction continues on the gravity-based structure and topsides for the Hebron platform offshore Newfoundland & Labrador, according to partner Suncor Energy.

The company anticipates first oil in 2017.

Subsea installations have been completed for the Hibernia Southern Extension Unit (HSEU), Suncor adds, and subsea drilling activities started early this year.

HSEU is designed to increase overall production from the Hibernia field from 2015.

Elsewhere in the region, detailed engineering and procurement is in progress for the remainder of the South White Rose Extension project, Suncor says. Installation of subsea equipment should finish this year, with first oil expected during the fall.

The partners are targeting a sanction decision for further expansion into the western part of theWhite Rose field during 2Q 2014.

In the UK central North Sea, Suncor is a partner to CNOOC/Nexen in theGolden Eagle development. Drilling should get under way soon. First oil is due around the turn of the year.
