MOSCOW– Gazprom has started producing oil from the Prirazlomnoye field offshore northern Russia.

The Prirazlomnoye oil field is on the Pechora Sea shelf, 60 km (37 mi) offshore. It contains oil reserves of 72 million tons (525 MMbbl).

The development is targeting annual production of more than 6 million tons (43.8 MMbbl). Associated produced gas will be used for the platform’s needs.

ThePrirazlomnaya offshore ice-resistant stationary platform secures every process operation in the field – drilling for oil, its production and storage, end product processing and offloading. It is for the first time in the world that hydrocarbons in the Arctic shelf will be produced by a stationary platform.
