ULSTEINVIK, Norway --Ulstein Verft has won two orders for new SX165 offshore construction vessels from Island Ventures LLC.

One will be built at Ulstein Verft’s shipyard in Norway, and is due for delivery in summer 2015. Additionally, Island has commissioned design and engineering packages for the other vessel, to be built at Edison Chouest’s yard in the US.

The generic SX165 design is a 145.7-m (478-ft) long, 28-m (92-ft) wide vessel that can accommodate a crew of 200. Equipment includes two cranes that can lift 400 tons and 140 tons, one 11.2 x 12-m (36.7 x 39.3-ft) moonpool and two smaller moonpools with ROVs installed in a central hangar.

Three separate engine rooms safeguard operational reliability – if one engine room is out of service, the ship still has two-thirds of its operational capacity.

Other features are four lifeboats, two on each side, and an SCR catalyst system to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.
