MOSCOW – Gazprom has updated preparations for construction of the new South Stream gas pipeline in the southern Black Sea.

All design and survey activities have been completed for the deepwater section. Work continues on the gas pipeline design offshore and onshore the Russian and Bulgarian sectors.

Approval has been received for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the Russian offshore section. The EIA findings for the Bulgarian offshore section are expected before December.

A bidding procedure has been organized for selection of contractors to supply pipe anddeepwater pipelay services.

The main offshore section of South Stream will run under the Black Sea from the Russkaya compressor station on the Russian coast to the Bulgarian coast. Total length of this section will be more than 900 km (559 mi), with a maximum depth exceeding 2,000 m (6,562 ft).
