JX Nippon to explore deepwater tract offshore Sarawak

JX Nippon Oil & Gas has teamed with Petronas on a deepwater production-sharing contract offshore Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – JX Nippon Oil & Gas has teamed with Petronas on a deepwater production-sharing contract offshore Malaysia.

Deepwater block 2F, northwest ofSarawak, extends more than 5,500 sq km (2,123 sq mi) in water depths from 100-1,200 m (328-3,937 ft). JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Offshore Malaysia) has a 40% operating interest and will be responsible for exploration activity.

This is the company’s fourth operated concession in Malaysia. It operates block SK10, offshore Sarawak, which is now in its 10th year of gas production and is undergoing studies for further development.

It also operates deepwater block R offshore Sabah, and participates in exploration activities in block PM308A offshore Peninsular Malaysia.
