MOSCOW – Rosneft has outlined its seismic survey plans for three blocks in the Sea of Okhotsk offshore northeast Russia.

The company secured licenses for blocksLisyansky, Kashevarovsky and Magadan-1 in 2011, and is exploring them jointly with Statoil.

Rosneft subsidiary OJSC RN Shelf Far East will perform the surveys. The current plan is to acquire 2D seismic and a shipborne gravity magnetic survey using the research vesselAcademik Fersman.

The program will take in 5,300 km (3,293 mi) over Lisyansky, 2,000 km (1,243 mi) on Kashevarovsky block, and 2,700 km (1,678 mi) for Magadan-1. LLC Environmental Co. of Sakhalin will perform associated environmental and fishery research.

Another planned environmental protection measure is a study of the subsea wellhead of the Khmitevskaya-2 well drilled on Magadan-1 in the 1990s.

Preparatory work has been completed. This comprised detailed assessment of the planned works’ environmental impacts and obtaining necessary regulatory agency approvals. An environmental monitoring and production control program will be implemented during the seismic survey to mitigate any potential impact.
