LONDON --RWE Dea is preparing to spud its first Caspian Sea exploration well in block 23 offshore Turkmenistan.
A new 3D seismic survey revealed numerous structures with hydrocarbon potential. First of these to be explored will be West-Keymir, to be drilled from the shore by a local contractor.
In the eastern Mediterranean, the company is a partner to BP in theWest Nile Delta concession, north of Alexandria on the Egyptian coast. Although development has started, the program has been delayed due to the probable need to relocate the planned coastal gas treatment plant from Site G, southeast of the concession farther along the coast.
“We are focused on developing a land base that would be acceptable to all parties and with the support of the local population,” said RWE Dea CEO Thomas Rappuhn at a briefing in London this week.
“The development concept remains under continuous optimization. First production is still planned in 2017, but it depends on the outcome of the current activities.”
