PSA approves offshore Norway drilling, plug back plans

OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has approved Wintershall’s latest exploration drilling program in the Norwegian Sea.

The semisubmersibleTransocean Arctic should start work this month on well 6406/6-3 in license PL 511. Water depth is 243 m (797 ft). Drilling could last 127 days, if a discovery results.

PSA also has authorized Statoil to use the semisubmersibleTransocean Leader to permanently plug back well 6407/6-5 in the Norwegian Sea, in a water depth of 225 m (738 ft).

The operation is expected to start on April 13, and continue through May 1.
