OSLO, Norway – DONG E&P Norge has proven more oil and gas close to the Trym field in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

A well drilled by theMaersk Giant 2 km (1.2 mi) south of Trym in 65 m (213 ft) of water in license PL 147 encountered oil and gas in a 159-m (521-ft) gross column in the Sandnes and Bryne formations.

Early analysis suggests recoverable reserves in the 1-2 MMcmoe range, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate. The licensees will assess whether the discovery is commercial.

Maersk Giant will next drill the wildcat well 3/7-9 S on the nearby PL 289, again for DONG.

Lundin Norway is close to completing its latest Johan Sverdrup appraisal well in PL 501.

Well 16/3-5 encountered a 30-m (98-ft) oil column. The top 14 m (46 ft) are said to be in good-quality Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks.

NPD has approved Lundin’s request to drill another exploratory well in the North Sea in PL 359, using the semisubmersibleBredford Dolphin. Well 16/4-6 will be drilled 5.4 km (3.3 mi) southwest of the 16/4-5 well and 8.1 km (5 mi) northeast of the 16/4-1 well.
