WINDSOR, UK – Centrica Energy has started production from the York field platform in the UK southern gas basin.
The 2,750-metric ton (3,031-ton) unmanned facility, built by Heerema in Hartleppol, northeast England, was installed in the North Sea last year. It is 40 km (25 mi) east of the Humberside coast in a water depth of 45 m (147 ft).
Gas is exported through a 20-mi (32-km) pipeline to Centrica’s terminal in Easington. Production currently comes from one well, with drilling under way on a second well.
At peak the field will produce about 120 MMcf/d (3.4 MMcm/d).
Greg McKenna, regional director – southern North Sea, said: “The platform has been constructed so that it’s able to receive gas from other adjacent fields, so we will continue to explore future opportunities to develop the project further.”
