SINGAPORE– Leighton Offshore has completed installation of the single-point mooring (SPM) system for the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA).
The project, southeast of Dar Es Salaam, comprised development and pre- commissioning of an offshore terminal for import of crude oil and white products capable of mooring tankers up to 150,000 dwt.
According to Leighton Offshore CEO Boyd Merrett, notable features of the program included comprehensive pigging of the system through the SPM and pipelines, and demanding trenching work through the intertidal zone and reef crossing.
Leighton’s scope covered fabrication and installation of the SPM system; procurement and installation of two offshore pipelines, 28-in. for the crude line and 24-in. for the white product line; procurement and installation of onshore pipelines; and testing and pre-commissioning of the system.
“We are continuing to focus on East Africa as a market, where there are significant potential offshore oil and gas projects in early stages of development,” Merrett said.
