LEIDEN, the Netherlands – Heerema Marine Contractors has ordered what will be the world’s largest, heaviest hydraulic underwater pile-driving hammer from Menck.
The tool will be 25 m (82 ft) long with a 192-ton (174-metric ton) ram delivering 3,500 kJ of energy. Heerema says it will be able to drive piles to 500 m (1,640 ft).
HMC expects delivery of the hammer as early as January 2013.
