Chevron extends Subsea 7 installation role on Gorgon

LONDON -- Chevron (NYSE: CVX) has contracted Subsea 7 for a range of subsea installations for the Gorgon development, offshore Western Australia for Chevron Australia.

The $440-million work scope includes installation and tie in of heavy lift structures in the Gorgon and Jansz fields, respectively 65 km (40 mi) and 130 km (81 mi) from Barrow Island, off the northwest coast, in water depths of up to 1,350 m (4,429 ft).

The program calls for engineering, spools fabrication, transportation, installation, and pre-commissioning of:
• 20 subsea structures and foundations, each weighing up to 1,065 metric tons (1,174 tons)
• 15 heavy spools, each of up to 190 mt (209 t)
• 48 tie-in spools
• 39 electrical and 18 hydraulic flying leads
• Five infield umbilicals and two associated distribution units.

Subsea 7 will execute project management and engineering from Perth, Australia, and start offshore operations in 2013 using Sapura 3000 and other construction vessels from its fleet.

The contract follows the company’s recent award of the Gorgon umbilicals project.
