BG draws blank in Norwegian Sea

OSLO, Norway -- BG Norge’s latest wildcat offshore Norway was dry, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

Well 6604/2-1 was drilled by the semisub Aker Barents in production license 522 in the Norwegian Sea, in 1,262 m (4,140 ft) water depth.

The well’s main aim was to prove petroleum in Upper Cretaceous reservoir rocks. The targeted Springar formation was encountered, with rock and reservoir quality as expected.

This was the first well drilled in the concession, which was awarded in 2009 under Norway’s 20th licensing round. Nearest discoveries were 6705/10-1 Asterix, 45 km (28 mi) to the northeast, and 6603/12-1 Gro, 60 km (37 mi) to the south.

Aker Barents now heads to PL 377S in the North Sea, west of the Vega field, to drill wildcat 35/7-1 S for Idemitsu Petroleum Norge.
