ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands -- ORCA Offshore and MarineObjects have teamed to provide an Operational Decision Support (ODS) service for transportation and installation projects. The service is designed to give offshore installation managers (OIMs) information needed to make a start or stop decision during critical operations.

The two companies are pooling their expertise in computing technology, sensoring, offshore operations, weather dynamics, and vessel hydrodynamics.

ODS combines the data from life sensors with a computer simulation model designed to create accurate predictions of the dynamics of the installation equipment or cargo during the various stages of the transportation or installation operation. The system makes use of the following data sources:
• Installation vessel and cargo multi-body dynamic simulation model
• User-defined strength and motion criteria
• Weather forecast data
• Waverider buoy data
• Vessel or cargo motion and acceleration data
• Vessel or cargo internal deformation data.

The service combines the different data sources in one model to show the actual and predicted use of the defined operational limits of the offshore operation. Additionally, ODS can provide a senior naval architect for offshore support, or alternatively set up the service as a stand-alone system operated by the offshore crew.

Benefits could include reduced weather down time and weather risks for critical offshore operations.
