Spectrum cleans up Bahamas seismic

NASSAU, Bahamas -- Spectrum has completed acquisition of long offset data in the southern blocks of Bahamas waters close to the border with Cuba. The program was commissioned by Bahamas Petroleum Co. Seismic data processing is under way at Spectrum’s Houston Data Processing and Imaging Center.

Previous data in the area, from the 1980s, were compiled using FK demultiple and post-stack migration technology. Spectrum says modern acquisition and processing techniques significantly improves the quality and resolution of the data.

The company has deployed a combination of 2D surface related multiple elimination (SRME) to attenuate water bottom-related multiples and high resolution radon demultiple to attenuate faster interbed multiples. These techniques have minimized multiples in this dataset, says Spectrum. The data benefited further from specialist noise reduction using Spectrum’s proprietary NoiseRM process.

Previous data in this area only employed post-stack migration, but for the new data Spectrum used two passes of Kirchhoff pre-stack time migration - the first pass to produce a migration velocity field with analysis every kilometer, and the second to finally migrate the data more accurately. Afterwards, the company ran a final velocity analysis on the migrated data to provide a final stacking velocity.
