DUBAI, UAE -- Maritime Industrial Services (MIS) has completed the design, fabrication, and installation of a riser guard frame for RAK Petroleum’s Bukha platform offshore Oman.

The job formed part of MIS’ rolling engineering services and maintenance contract for RAK’s offshore facilities. It was transferred to the platform deck directly from a supply boat using engineered rigging systems, avoiding the need for cranes.

Among other offshore programs, MIS’ New Build Division recently installed the cantilever and drill floor on the hull structure of the new MENAdrill Hercules I jackup. The remaining leg sections are in assembly, with the rig in the final stages of completion. It should be ready for delivery to the First Energy Bank and Hercules Offshore over the coming months.

This summer, MIS completed the “float-off” of the hull for the MENAdrill Hercules IIfrom a transport barge to a local drydock. It has since returned to the MIS Sharjah Yard for installation of the leg sections, the cantilever, and the drill floor.

MIS is also a continuous service provider to Indian fabricator Larsen & Toubro. Recently, it completed a contract for a series of vertical buoyancy tanks for ONGC’s new MNP jacket, MHN process platform, and living quarters project, which is under construction at L&T’s Sohar Oman yard. MIS’ scope comprised fabrication, testing and ex-works readiness of a total of 734 metric tons (809 tons) of steel.

Elsewhere, MIS Arabia has signed an agreement with Jubail Port Authority to lease a 30,000-sq m (322,917-sq ft) area adjacent to the port. This “modular” yard is suitable for fabrication of offshore structures, boat landing, demolition of decks, and other work.

MIS Arabia also secured approval from the Royal Commission to construct a new fabrication facility within Jubail Support Industries and adjacent to the current fabrication site. The area available for the new facility is 20,000 sq m (215,278 sq ft); it should be commissioned during 1Q 2011. It will be equipped with several overhead cranes, a rolling machine, CNC drilling machines, and other facilities.

This division’s current offshore fabrication workload includes 32 production/tie-in spools for J Ray McDermott / Saudi Aramco for the Karan project.
