HOUSTON – M-I SWACO has released KLA-SHIELD water-based drilling fluid developed with products that address environmental concerns whether onshore or offshore, says Schlumberger.
For offshore operations, the new drilling fluid has a low marine toxicity and fast biodegradation.
The inhibitive drilling fluid system is designed for reactive shales, large-diameter wellbores, and extended-reach drilling. The inhibition is matched to the formation type. The system promotes wellbore stability and effective hole cleaning, and reduces drilling waste management and fluid costs due to the lower dilution needs, waste volume, and recycling, says M-I SWACO.
