TEHRAN -- Installation of the third platform jacket for the South Pars Phase 12 development in the Persian Gulf should start shortly, according to Pars Oil and Gas Co. Earlier this week laying of the first associated 149-km (92-mi) export pipeline was completed.

Soleiman Fahimi, Phase 12 executive director, said the jacket, weighing 2,000 tons (1,814 metric tons), would be installed in 70 m (229 ft) water depth, close to the offshore median line with Qatar. The deck section and the 32-in. (81-cm) offshore pipelines (450 km, or 279 mi, in total) should also be installed on schedule.

Following installation, he added, Petropars Co. will start development drilling.

Another satellite platform will be installed for Phase 12 later to counter the eventual production decline in the wells. POGC is aiming for production of 3 bcf/d of gas.

To date, Fahimi said, the project’s offshore phase was 62% complete, with final completion expected in summer 2012.

Phase 12 has been designed to deliver 75 MMcm/d (2.65 tcf/d) of natural gas for injection into Iran’s sixth gas pipeline, for use as LNG. The development will also generate 120,000 b/d of gas condensates and 750 ton/d of sulfur.
