LONDON -- Reservoir drive issues have led the Hoang Long Joint Operating Co. to plug and abandon its latest appraisal well on the Te Giac Den field in Vietnam’s Cuu Long basin.
According to partner SOCO International, although well TGD-2X delivered significant hydrocarbons from a clastics reservoir sequence at around 4,550 m (14,928 ft) measured depth, producing both black oil and gas, the flow was sub-commercial.
The well was drilled on the flank of the structure, unlike TGD-1X and TGD-1XST which were drilled on the crest. However, the oil leg on the flank lacked the gas content encountered on the crest, providing insufficient reservoir energy for flow purposes.
In the same concession, the partnership has completed the first two development wells on the Te Giac Trang development. Early log analysis of the first well (TGT-H1-1P), drilled as a “twin” of the original discovery wells, suggests it encountered the top of the target reservoir horizon.
TGT-H1-2P encountered the reservoir section 10 m (33 ft) higher than anticipated. SOCO says this supports the structural reservoir analysis following the reprocessed pre-stack depth migrated seismic which indicated that the TGT field extends to the east.
Both wells are being suspended and will become producers once production starts in mid-2011. First-phase output will be around 55,000 b/d of oil.
