OSLO, Norway -- Aker Solutions has established a 50-50 venture with Kazakh company KGNT Holding to service oil and gas field activity in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea.

Aker Caspian will offer a range of services for offshore field development, maintenance, and modification projects, along with fabrication for onshore plants in Kazakhstan.

The operation will own and manage a fabrication yard in Aktau, next to the country’s largest sea port of Kazakhstan. Aker Solutions says the joint venture has secured the land and made financial commitments to start development of the yard in parallel with scheduled offshore projects in the region.

Aker Caspian also will be instrumental in the formation of a training center in Aktau for oil and gas industry personnel, in line with international standards.

The new facility will provide fabrication and construction; engineering, procurement and construction; engineering, procurement, construction, and installation; terminal and base services in the Aktau sea port area; and hook-up and commissioning services.

KGNT Holding is a privately owned group of companies active in Kazkahstan’s maritime and oil and gas industry. Its services range from offshore and onshore engineering, to project management support services, marine transport and flotels, and pipeline and storage engineering.

The group's engineering company, according to Aker Solutions, is one of the country’s leading engineering companies providing services in design, project management and engineering related to the life cycle of oil and gas projects offshore and onshore.

Its offshore construction company is the first private and wholly Kazakh owned company to operate and maintain marine vessels in the North Caspian Sea. It owns a fleet of 10 newbuild vessels and is building five new shallow-draft icebreaking tug boats. Clients include Agip KCO, Saipem Kazakhstan Branch, and Enka Insaat ve.

Aker Solutions is already involved in the Kashagan field development project, having completed engineering, procurement and fabrication contract of several modules. It is currently engaged in the ongoing offshore hook-up and commissioning project and the full field FEED development contract.
