MONACO --BP Norge has contracted SBM Offshore for turnkey supply of an internal turret for its Skarv-Idun FPSO in the Norwegian Sea.

SBM claims this will be the world's largest turret in terms of mooring loads. It will be of the bogie-wheel type design, similar to the turret the company supplied to BP's Schiehallion field FPS0 west of Shetland in the 1990s, and to more recent installations in Brazilian deepwater fields.

The turret mooring system should be delivered to Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea in March 2010, for integration into the Skarv-Idun FPSO hull. The contract value is around $250 million.
