OSLO, Norway –SCAN Geophysical ASA plans to upgrade its SCAN Stigandi vessel to Ice Class and four-streamer capacity starting in Nov. 2007.

The Ice Class upgrade includes replacing the ship's sides with thicker steel plates. Going to four streamers calls for additional strengthening of the main deck. SCAN also plans to prepare the vessel for a retractable azimuth thruster to be fitted early next year.

The vessel is being converted from a modern 2002-built trawler to a seismic vessel at Irving Shipbuilding Inc., in Halifax, Canada. Delivery is scheduled for Oct. 26, 2007.
