Marathon makes deepwater GoM discovery

HOUSTON --Marathon Oil Corp. has announced a deepwater Gulf of Mexico discovery in Green Canyon block 244. The Droshky #1 is 137 mi (220 km) south-southwest of Venice, Louisiana, in 2,900 ft (884 m) of water. Log data indicates some 250 ft (76 m) of net oil pay.

"The preliminary results suggest that the Droshky #1 is a commercial discovery with development likely through the Troika Unit infrastructure which is located approximately 2 mi from the Droshky well," said Philip G. Behrman, Marathon senior vice president of Worldwide Exploration.

Operations have commenced to drill up to two sidetrack wells to be followed by engineering development studies. Marathon holds a 100 % interest in the Droshky #1 well and a 50 % interest in the Troika Unit.
