MELBOURNE, Australia --Gippsland Offshore Petroleum is funding 1,200 km (745 mi) of 2D seismic surveying offshore Kenya in order to earn a 60% equity in Lamu basin's L-6 block. It also will become the operator.

The offshore seismic results will be interpreted in conjunction with an aerial gravity survey by BHP Billiton in an effort to link the onshore and offshore geology of the basin. Interpretation is expected to be completed by August 2007 in preparation for drilling.

Pancontinental Oil & Gas NL holds the other 40% of the block.
