STAVANGER, Norway -- Ocean Rig has taken the Eirik Raude semisubmersible out of operation. The rig is on its way to a shipyard in Newfoundland, where a small crack in one of the bracings will be repaired.

There is no potential risk to the structural integrity of the rig or to personnel on board the rig, the company says. Ocean Rig is carrying out repairs to ensure that the rig is fully fit for purpose to complete the well in progress under the currently extreme weather conditions in the area.

The repair time, including transit, is estimated at three weeks depending on weather conditions.
