CALGARY, Canada --Talisman Vietnam has discovered oil with the Hai Su Trang well in block 15-2/01 offshore Vietnam. The company encountered 52 m (170 ft) of net pay in the Lower Miocene. The well tested at 14,863 b/d of oil through a 51 mm (2-in) choke at an average surface pressure of 450 psi (3.1 MPa).

The well was drilled to a total vertical depth of 3,319 m (10,888 ft) on a separate fault block updip and adjacent to the 2005 Te Giac Trang discovery.

The Thang Long Joint Operating Co., established for the purposes of conducting all operations on block 15-2/01, plans to drill three new wildcat exploration wells in 2007 to evaluate features on trend with the HST discovery. Talisman holds a 60% working interest in any commercial discoveries on block 15-2/01 with PetroVietnam Exploration and Production Co. holding the remaining 40%.
