Statoil VP sees cooperation as the key to success

HOUSTON --Einar M. Jensen, Statoil's vice president of development and projects in the Gulf of Mexico, addressed web cast attendees at the Deep Offshore Technology conference Wednesday, Nov. 29.
Jensen took a look back at the North Sea before looking forward at prospects in the US Gulf of Mexico, in particular, technological advances that have increased recovery from the Statfjord field from 49% in 1986 to 70% today.
A tremendous amount of progress has been made in deepwater technology, Jensen said, and the future will deliver even faster technological developments.
Jensen believes that many of the industry's advancements are the result of cooperative effort, and he championed the cooperative approach as the industry faces increasingly difficult challenges in the move to deeper water. "Most development work is going on in cooperation with the industry," Jensen said.
Looking to the future, Jensen believes cooperation will be indispensable. Working together, Jensen said, "We can be very efficient, more focused, and goal orientated."
