PARIS -- CGG's new vessel Geo Challenger is close to completing a 4D seismic survey in the North Sea, its first major acquisition program since its launch this June. The assignment covered an area of 930 sq km; the main challenge was to provide a high level of repeatability on a 1997 baseline survey over the same area, in order to monitor reservoir changes around production facilities.

The vessel has employed 12 5,100 m Sercel Sentinel solid streamers with a 50 m separation, compared with eight 3,600 m streamers for the previous survey. Advantages of the new streamers include reduced tow-related noise and good stability in rough waters.
